Tammy Nielsen Winkler was the No. 1 pitcher from 2003-05 for the Creighton Softball team, throwing every inning in 10 straight victories at the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament, while helping the Jays to three straight league tournament titles. She established herself as a team leader and one of the best players in the MVC.
She was the first pitcher in Creighton history to record three 20-win seasons, and was a three-time All-MVC First Team honoree. Nielsen Winkler ranks second at Creighton with 914 career strikeouts, and remains the only pitcher in MVC history with multiple seasons of 300 or more strikeouts.
Nielsen Winkler authored five no-hitters in 2004, when she was named MVC Pitcher of the Year and a Second Team Easton All-American. She ranks in the top-seven in MVC history in career wins and shutouts, and ranks among the top three in Creighton history in shutouts, strikeouts, wins, appearances, complete games, innings pitched and starts.
Tammy finished her career at Creighton with three consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances, three straight MVC Tournament Titles and was a three-time MVC Tournament MVP. Her hard work and determination established a standard of excellence for Creighton softball. Creighton University is proud to induct Tammy Nielsen Winkler into the Athletic Hall of Fame.
